North Queensland Cowboys have released a statement confirming that hooker Jake Granville will call time on his NRL career with the player wishing to pursue a Super League opportunity.
Granville is one of the Cowboys’ best and most loyal servants with the 35-year-old having played 207 games for the club over the course of a decade.
After debuting for Brisbane Broncos in 2013, Granville joined the Cowboys in 2015 and was integral to the club winning the Grand Final, even being named as the Player’s Player of the Year ahead of the likes of Jonathon Thurston.
In the nine seasons since Granville has continued to be one of the Cowboys’ best but aged 35, he and the club are now set to part ways for the 2025 season, something that was confirmed in a club statement.
That statement confirms Granville’s intention to call time on his NRL career and make a move overseas. It also confirmed that a pec injury will rule him out for the remainder of 2024, meaning he’s played his final NRL game.

The club’s statement made Granville’s intentions clear, stating: “Granville has indicated a desire to play on overseas.”
This was then confirmed by the 35-year-old who said: “When I arrived in North Queensland, I never imagined I’d have the opportunity to play 10 seasons for the Cowboys.
“I’ve loved every second of my time at the club and I’m sad to be leaving, but I know this is the right time.
“I am hoping to explore opportunities to finish my career overseas, which I think would be a great experience for our family.”
Granville would fill a quota spot which automatically rules out several sides from signing him. Catalans Dragons have just lost hooker Micky McIlorum for 2025 but their recent signing spree leaves them light on quota spots.
