After being linked to Super League over the past couple of months, NRL half-back Kodi Nikorima has now made a decision on his future.
The brother of Bradford Bulls playmaker, Jayden, has been widely targeted by UK clubs as of late, with his contract at his current club, The Dolphins, coming to an end.
Kristian Woolf’s NRL side signed George Williams for 2027 and beyond, and with youngster Isaiah Katoa being the club’s focal point, it leaves the former Kiwi international without a starting spot for next season.
Whilst no club directly was linked with him, Nikorima was heavily believed to have been of interest to sides in the northern hemisphere, with his brother already being over here thought to be a key factor.
However, the half-back has now put that speculation to bed and has landed a new contract for next year, but it’s not in Super League.
The 32-year-old has snubbed the UK to join St George Illawarra Dragons for seasons 2027 and 2028.
The Dragons are currently bottom of the NRL, but have made some strong signings for next season as they look to move away from the wooden spoon.
Following the announcement, St George head coach Dean Young said: “Kodi’s achieved so much in the game and has been playing great football at the Dolphins.
“He’s a classy player. His ball-playing ability and decision-making are elite. We are looking forward to welcoming him to the club in November.”
Dragons CEO Tim Watsford added: “We’re very proud to be welcoming Kodi to the Dragons next season.
“We have been deliberate and bold in the recruitment market, continuing to assemble an elite playing group that is built to compete at the highest level and represent our club in a way that makes our members and fans proud.”
