NRL star given minor ban for “dog shot” as St Helens star banned

The latest round of Rugby League World Cup fixtures have come under the scrutiny of the match review panel chaired as always by former Warrington Wolves coach Paul Cullen.

Unsurprisingly, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves of New Zealand has copped a ban for his high tackle against Ireland which yielded a yellow card at Leeds Rhinos’ Headingley Stadium on Friday with Ireland boss Ged Corcoran describing it as a “dog shot” and suggesting that his tournament could be over.

However, the Roosters prop will likely play again in the tournament after he received just a one match ban.

St Helens star James Bell equally received a one-match ban for dangerous contact for Scotland.

New Zealand’s Jahrome Hughes was cautioned for other contray behaviour.

Following the recent rounds of the RLWC2021 Match Review Panel which took place on 30 and 31 October, the following sanctions have been issued:

Jared Warea Hargreaves (New Zealand): Grade A High Tackle,1 Match Penalty Notice
James Bell (Scotland): Grade A Dangerous Contact, 1 Match Penalty Notice
The deadline to challenge the decisions is 11am on Monday 31 October.
The following players received cautions:

Jahrome Hughes (New Zealand) – Other Contrary Behaviour
The deadline to challenge this decision is 11am on Monday 31 October.

Jaxson Rahme (Lebanon) – Dangerous Contact
The deadline to challenge this decision is 11am on Tuesday 1 November.
