Canberra Raiders veteran Jordan Rapana has been reported to be heading to Hull FC for 2025 and the winger has now confirmed it, despite no confirmation from the Black and Whites.
It was reported recently that Hull FC had beaten the likes of Leeds Rhinos to the signing of Jordan Rapana, Canberra Raiders’ veteran winger, but the club are yet to announce the deal.
The Black and Whites have made a host of signings under new Director of Rugby Richie Myler with the likes of John Asiata, Zak Hardaker, Amir Bourouh and Jordan Abdull all among the confirmed names set to be playing at the MKM Stadium in 2025.
Rapana is one of those reported named that will also join with the Hull Daily Mail first reporting that FC had managed to hijack Leeds’ move for the 35-year-old. That news came a week ago but no confirmation has come from the club, however, it has now come from Rapana himself.
Jordan Rapana confirms Hull FC move
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph down under, Rapana has spoken about the season-ending injury that he suffered in the Raiders’ penultimate game of the season.
His final moment in the NRL has seen him fracture his eye socket and cheekbone and also break his nose for good measure, leaving him battered and bruised and without the fairytale sendoff that his Raiders’ career deserves.
With his contract winding down at the Raiders, the former New Zealand international became an obvious target for Super League sides and it was actually his head coach Ricky Stuart who looked to push him in the direction of Super League as he urged Rapana to seek a two-year deal, something Hull FC offered.
Rapana explained: “Ricky is not only a coach but a good mate and he told me that the deal would be on the table all year.
“He said ‘as a mate I want you to find a two-year deal to get some security and life experience’. It wasn’t until last week that I got the two years from Hull FC which was a no-brainer for me.”
That’s confirmed the deal with Rapana snubbing Leeds Rhinos, something that Brad Arthur conceded yesterday, in favour of the two-year deal at Hull FC.
Arthur had explained that Rapana was “someone we had interest in” with the club looking to fill two quota spots with one of those being vacated by winger David Fusitu’a.
