According to reports, David Nofoaluma, a veteran winger, may have played his last game for the Wests Tigers after agreeing to a severance with the club. This could open the door for a move to Super League in 2024.
A talented player, a number of Super League clubs would be delighted to secure his services but many would have to find a way round their quota spots to secure his signature.
The Tigers are currently going through a rebuilding phase under Benji Marshall and have been signing new players and potentially releasing others. They are hoping to make it to the finals for the first time in over a decade this season.
The club has been in a dispute with Nofoaluma for some time, and it has now been reported that they have agreed to pay him a severance of $300,000, ending his time as a Tiger, as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald.
Super League move looms?
Nofoaluma has been linked with a move to Super League before and that looks on the table again with the Wests Tigers officially releasing him.
They released the following statement:
“Wests Tigers has today released winger David Nofoaluma from the remaining two years of his playing contract.
“The club and player have agreed to terminate the contract by mutual consent, effect immediately.”
Interim CEO Shane Richardson has thanked Nofoaluma for his services to Wests Tigers: “We thank David for all that he has given to this club over the past decade. We wish David all the very best with his future.”
Nofoaluma played 192 games for Wests Tigers, making his NRL debut for the club in 2013. Could his next move be to Super League? Time will tell.
