Anthony Milford is expected to make the move to Super League for 2025, according to reports.
The Dolphins half-back has struggled to work his way into the first-team picture under Wayne Bennett this season, making just two appearances for the club. As such, as his contract in Queensland comes to an end, Milford will be assessing his options as he looks to prolong his career at the top level.
It’s fair to say that his NRL future looks uncertain, but according to the Daily Telegraph, the 30-year-old might just be on his way to Super League. The report claims that a move to the Northern Hemisphere looks likely unless a club from Down Under emerges with a late offer.
Which Super League club he might end up at remains unknown, but it is claimed the Samoa international turned down the chance to make the move in the build up to the 2024 campaign.
Milford started his career with Canberra Raiders before making the switch to Brisbane Broncos in 2015, where he was reportedly earning a seven-figure salary. He made 151 appearances for the Broncos, but his last few years in the game have been a struggle with time spent on the peripheries at Newcastle Knights and the Dolphins.
At his peak he made two appearances for Queensland, while he has also collected 13 caps for Samoa.
So, if Milford were to make the move over to Super League, where would he end up? Well, Warrington Wolves might be a destination that makes some sense with the club due to release Josh Drinkwater at the end of the season.
The Wolves are expected to sign Oli Leyland from London Broncos, but it remains to be seen if they look to add a more senior figure in that role, too. Leigh Leopards have room on their overseas quota, too, should they wish to sign a half-back. Huddersfield Giants, Catalans Dragons, Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors are among those with space, too, but all four clubs already have established half-back options.
