NRL icon Robbie Farah looking to ‘buy stakes’ in London Broncos

London Broncos Robbie Farah

Wests Tigers legend Robbie Farah has been linked with purchasing shares in London Broncos following their Super League relegation.

The capital’s relegation prompted long-time benefactor David Hughes to walk away after 27 years of involvement at the club, sending London into financial disarray.

Currently, the club are fundraising in order to be able to head into the 2025 season whilst updates from Chief Executive Jason Loubser in October revealed the club must find £350,000 ‘in the next month’.

Speaking about that major ‘hole’ in the budget, Loubser explained that the club must ‘raise funds alternatively and immediately’. An alternative option now seems to have presented itself in the form of NRL legend Robbie Farah with reports Down Under linking the 40-year-old to London Broncos.

It would be a most unexpected source of investment but one that seemingly has legs with The Daily Telegraph outlining that former London Broncos boss Tony Rea set Farrah onto the opportunity, with their connection stemming to the Lebanese national team.

London has often been seen as the frontier that Rugby League cannot crack despite the potential being talked up, including by IMG whose system effectively relegated the Broncos before a ball had been kicked.

That very likely played a role in David Hughes ending his association with the club with the former owner very vocal about IMG during the 2024 campaign.

His exit prompted the need for new funds though and now Robbie Farah could be the unlikely source of those alongside his business partner Jai Ayoub.

Per The Daily Telegraph report, the pair are ‘looking to expand their interests’ and were put onto the London opportunity by Rea which ‘prompted’ them to ‘look into the prospect of buying a stake’ in the Broncos.

They are partners in Two4Seven, a business relating to sporting events, and London Broncos could provide them with a new market.

As for London, they’ve recently provided an update via head coach Mike Eccles who outlined that the club currently only has 11 players contracted with a further six on train-and-trial deals currently.

With the club outlining the need for £950,000 to complete the season, Farah’s possible investment could be absolutely crucial.
