After being previously offered to Super League clubs, Mitch Rein has found a new club as he gears himself up for a big year.
The former Gold Coast Titans hooker was said to be a name bandied around the UK top flight as the clock wound down to the end of the 2021 season, but a move never materialised.
Instead, Rein joined the Parramatta Eels on a one-year deal, which could explain why the Eels left the Josh Hodgson deal until 2023 with current first-choice hooker Reed Mahoney also departing at the end of 2022.
Rein debuted for the St George Illawarra Dragons back in 2011, registering 22 tries in 131 appearances over a period of six seasons.
From there, the elusive hooker joined the Penrith Panthers in 2017, but played just five games before deciding to take up an opportunity at the Gold Coast.
There he registered 71 appearances in four seasons, but Rein was deemed surplus to requirements at the Titans and it was then that he was offered to Super League clubs.
A hooker with a great kicking game, during the 2021 season Rein averaged 56 running metres and a tackle efficiency of 95.8%, so he would have gone down a storm on UK shores.
