NRL heavyweight Trent Robinson boss slams rival players

NRL heavyweight head coach Trent Robinson has slammed rival players who are set to revolt against the COVID-19 protocols implemented by the Australian government.

In recent days, a number of stars have spoken out against the increasing crackdown after being vaccinated.

Players have been unable to attend indoor venues like restaurants and pubs, but that didn’t stop severe outbreaks in a number of NRL sides with the likes of Gold Coast Titans having as many as 23 players forced to self-isolate.

That has since led a number of star players to announce their disapproval on social media with Canberra Raiders men Jordan Rapana and Jack Wighton speaking out.

“I have never seen a vaccine that forced me to wear a mask and maintain my social distance, even when you are fully vaccinated. I had never heard of a vaccine that spreads the virus even after vaccination,” Rapana said on social media.

“I had never heard of rewards, discounts, incentives to get vaccinated. I never saw discrimination for those who didn’t…”

But, head coach of the Sydney Roosters, Trent Robinson, has told Fox Sports that he is determined to follow protocols.

“We know we’ve got vaccinations but we’ve also got to look after the elderly and the vulnerable for a period of time.

“We know we’ve just got to go through this for however many weeks or months with some small restrictions.”

Robinson said his players had accepted the mandate from the NRL.

“I have not heard one complaint about the restrictions I’ve heard nothing, not one complaint, not one question,” he stated.

“They’ve just gone ‘okay, that’s what we’ve got to do’.

“Everyone can see what’s in front of us at the moment.”

Robinson revealed that the governing body gave the direct message and he, in turn, gave it to the players.

“We received [the message from the NRL], we passed it on [to the players] and we’re going about adhering to them and we’ll just keep training.

“I don’t see it as a big deal at the moment. You can go to a restaurant but just sit outside, is that the end of the world in summer?

“Life’s not back to normal for us – we’ve got different guys coming in and out every day – but we’ll just keep surging ahead with our training.”
