NRL halfback Mitchell Pearce speaks out on potential Super League move

Super League Grand FInalist Mitchell Pearce while playing for Newcastle Knights, before joining Catalans Dragons

NRL halfback Mitchell Pearce has been linked with Super League for the past few months.

With Catalans Dragons’ James Maloney taking a deal at fellow French side FC Lezignan at the end of the season, the rumour mill has been in overdrive over who Steve McNamara could bring in to replace the Australian architect.

That led to speculation that outcast Newcastle Knights halfback Mitchell Pearce could be making his way to the south of France.

However, that rumour has died down in recent weeks and Pearce’s future now looks to be more certain after the weekend.

Despite catching up with Gold Coast Titans assistant coach Jim Dymock – which in itself led to people putting two and two together and getting five – Pearce has insisted that it was just a friendly chat and has confirmed that he will be a Newcastle Knights player in 2022.

That clearly also means that he will not be a Catalans player next season too, with Steve McNamara now having to look elsewhere for a talismanic halfback.
