One of the best full-backs in the NRL would be ‘open’ to a Super League switch in the near future according to reports Down Under.
The Sydney Morning Herald have reported that Manly Sea Eagles full-back Tom Trbojevic would be willing to leave the club and make a move to Super League in 2027.
It would be an extraordinary move given that Trbojevic is still an Australian international, making the most recent of his seven appearances last year and he’s also well in the frame to play State of Origin.
Trbojevic has represented New South Wales on ten occasions, debuting in 2018 and most recently playing in the 2023 edition. He was snubbed this year as injury issues and form caused him to miss out, however, there is no doubting his quality.
He has only scored one try in his seven NRL appearances in 2025 but he’s averaging a whopping 155 metres and has also racked up four assists.
NRL star Tom Trbojevic linked with extraordinary Super League move
Injuries have plagued the 28-year-old who is off contract at the end of the 2026 season and sources close to the player have told the Herald that he would be willing to make a Super League switch, if it helps Manly retain some of their younger and more promising talent.
Trbojevic would be 30 heading into the 2027 season so he would be by no means finished and would have plenty to offer NRL and Super League sides alike. He would arguably become the highest-profile back to sign in Super League since Warrington Wolves’ move for Greg Inglis midway through the 2021 season, however, Inglis was already 34 by then.
According to the Herald, Trbojevic and his brother Tom’s management have begun talks with Manly to look at a new deal before other clubs are free to negotiate with them on November 1st.
Both have only ever represented Manly in the NRL and the club would be keen to keep it that way, however, those close to Tom have confirmed that he doesn’t want to negatively impact the club’s future and would be prepared to walk if his deal affects that of others.
Lehi Hopoate, contracted until the end of 2027, has starred when Trbojevic has been absent and is viewed as the heir to the throne at full-back.
On a salary of $1.15 million, Trbojevic would not be cheap for any Super League sides, however, he has already shown he’s willing to take a paycut having made a request to drop to $750,000 following his hamstring injury.
That was rejected by the NRL and whilst the 28-year-old did that due to his love of Manly, that love extends to him considering walking away to ensure the club’s future is in good hands.
