Plenty of great Super League signings have come from the NRL such as Ali Lauiti’iti and Kylie Leuluai at Leeds Rhinos, Pat Richards at Wigan Warriors, Joel Monaghan at Warrington Wolves and of course the likes of Ben Barba and Lachlan Coote at St Helens.
These days this is becoming no less frequent. We have seen Paul Vaughan make a huge impact at Warrington and Jake Clifford develop into perhaps Super League’s best halfback after joining Hull FC from the Newcastle Knights alongside Tex Hoy.
In recent times Leigh Leopards have had huge success in NRL recruits bringing in the likes of Edwin Ipape and Lachlan Lam with the Papua New Guinea stars having a huge impact at the club.
Brodie Croft at Salford Red Devils is perhaps the best example of an NRL signing really paying off as he won the Man of Steel and turned the club into title contenders. Tim Lafai deserves credit as well for his role in that.
Given the examples above, it is no surprise to see clubs continue to focus on more NRL signings.
Warrington have drafted in Lachlan Fitzgibbon from Newcastle Knights, Wigan have brought in former Leeds and Huddersfield Giants star Kruise Leeming and have been linked with Brenko Lee.
Meanwhile, Hull KR have signed Oliver Gildart and Peta Hiku for the new season and the NRL incomings won’t end there.
Another target has emerged in Tukimihia Simpkins. According to the Mole of Wide World of Sports the second row / prop has been told he can leave Wests Tigers and the huge prop who stands at six foot four and weighs 108 kg will therefore be on the radar of a number of clubs.
With clubs like Leeds and Hull FC linked with forwards for 2024, they could have an interest in the powerful prop.
