NRL flyer Dom Young set for Sydney Roosters exit with likely landing spot named

NRL flyer Dom Young has been told he is free to leave Sydney Roosters after just 18 months with a potential landing spot named.

The England international had a brilliant debut season with the Roosters as he scored 20 tries in 22 games and found himself among the NRL top scorers, however, the honeymoon period seems to be over.

Young has lost his place in Trent Robinson’s side in recent weeks and has found himself playing in the New South Wales Cup and now the club have told him he is free to leave.

Per The Daily TelegraphYoung could have played his final game for the Chucks with the England international granted permission to talk with rival sides.

The NRL deadline for mid-season moves is around eight weeks away on June 30th and Young has been told he’s “free to leave” before then if he wishes.

English NRL star Dom Young ‘free to leave’ Sydney Roosters

It’s a stark contrast from last year when he was one of the form players in the NRL but with Young on big money, the club are willing to let him walk just 18 months into a four-year deal.

Young may well consider it as well with a lack of game time sure to dent his chances of starring for England in the Ashes at the end of the year.

Recent weeks have seen a return to Newcastle Knights discussed but those reports will now firm up with his former club named as a potential landing spot should he leave the Roosters.

According to The Telegraph, a return to Newcastle is “looking more and more likely” with Adam O’Brien’s side “open to accommodating Young”.

Newcastle have struggled to put points on the board this year so the return of a winger who scored 43 tries in 51 games for them would be welcome.

With such a lethal strike rate what are the underlying issues? What isn’t being reported? 20/22 and 43/51 is pretty devastating form by any measure!
