NRL club’s Super League signing tipped as one to “keep an eye on”

St Helens Lewis Dodd

One former Super League star who has signed with an NRL club for 2025 has been tipped as “one to keep an eye on” by a senior player.

Several Super League players took the plunge and made a switch to the NRL for the 2025 season with some of those returning to the competition, whilst others are making the move for the first time.

Among those is former St Helens star Lewis Dodd with the Englishman being the only back to make the switch with Dodd set to take over in the halves at South Sydney Rabbitohs.

It’s a job with major responsibility and expectations, particularly at a club that finished 16th in 2024 when they’re accustomed to being contenders. Moreover, ‘super coach’ Wayne Bennett has returned to the fray making Souths one of the teams with great expectations upon them.

There are already expectations of Dodd within the team though with forward Jai Arrow labelling the former Super League star as one to watch in 2025.

When asked about players to “keep an eye on”, Arrow told media: “There are a lot of new faces but I’m excited about Lewis coming to the club.

“He’s in a pretty important position. Obviously, your half-back plays a vital part in a football side and he’s someone I’m really looking forward to working with.”

Arrow, who heads into his 10th season at the elite level was asked more about the Englishman with the 29-year-old claiming that his 22-year-old teammate has fit in seamlessly.

“He’s only been here for a couple of weeks but he’s fit in really well,” Arrow explained.

“He seems like a really cool, calm, and collected young kid who will add a lot of value to the side.

“I’m really excited to see what he can do. Watching from the sideline and seeing what he adds from a talking aspect, but he looks skilful as well so I’m looking forward to seeing him learn leading into the pre-season.”

Souths’ first pre-season game sees them take on Manly Sea Eagles on February 15th, the same day that Dodd’s former club St Helens start their Super League campaign.
