NRL club pursuing Super League star

There are question marks lingering over the likes of Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Hull FC and Leigh Leopards in terms of halfbacks.

We know Hull FC are in the market after the departure of Jake Clifford at the end of this year whilst Leeds and Wigan are both in the market for a new halfbacks with their current halves out of contract.

But one of the more interesting stories circles around Leigh Leopards star Lachlan Lam.

The halfback is of course son of coach Adrian Lam. Adrian brought Lam over to the UK from the Sydney Roosters last year and has been a revelation.

The Papua New Guinea World Cup star has arguably been Super League’s best player this year after helping Leigh secure promotion in 2022.

He is being chased by Canberra Raiders and other clubs but Leigh are working hard to agree a new contract.

Adrian Lam revealed as such as on the club’s YouTube: “Yeah it’s on par. The weeks fly by at the moment and before you know it the next week is here and we’re up to round 18 now, so it’s all flying by.

“Chris Chester is doing a good job there and I’m sure that will all get sorted pretty soon.”

Now a further update has come from Adrian Lam as he confirmed talks between Chris Chester and his son.

“That’s ongoing so hopefully there will be some news about that in the near future,” he said on the club’s YouTube Channel.

“Not only with him, but with a few other players that we have at the club. We’ve got to make sure we finalise deals and there’s players from the outside that we are trying to bring in that we’ve got to finalise. So it’s ongoing.

“That’s Chris Chester’s job, so he’s doing a good job with all of that.”

That said Zero Tackle in Australia has reported the continued interest from Canberra Raiders in the halfback.

There have been suggestions that Lam previously held talks with the club but it seems the talks that are ongoing at the moment are with Leigh who appear to be in a strong position to keep him.
