NRL club fends off interest from other clubs to sign Wigan Warriors star

By now most people already know that Will Pryce and Kai Pearce-Paul are headed to the NRL.

In fact, with it being rumoured for so long, it was already common knowledge but today it has been confirmed that the duo are headed to Newcastle Knights joining former Huddersfield Giants winger Dom Young and Castleford Tigers fullback Bailey Hodgson at the Knights as well as former Salford Red Devils, Wigan Warriors and Great Britain halfback Jackson Hastings after his recent move from Wests Tigers.

Both men have signed two year deals with the Knights but will not join the club until 2024.

Thus, they are contracted for 2024 and 2025 and will remain at Huddersfield Giants and Wigan Warriors respectively in 2023.

The Daily Telegraph had previously reported that Newcastle beat a number of clubs to Pryce’s signature.

It is likely that these were fellow NRL clubs though Pryce has previously been linked with Leeds Rhinos and of course St Helens where his father won the treble in 2006.

Now the publication has reported that it was the same for Wigan star Pearce-Paul.

The backrow / centre made his England test debut in a 94-4 win over Greece during the Rugby League World Cup and previously turned down NRL interest when in London to join Wigan.

It seems the Knights had to fend off that interest to secure the young man’s signature.

He has been likened by some to legendary sportsman Sonny Bill Williams who shone in both codes of rugby.
