St George Illawarra Dragons have confirmed the exit of nine players including former Hull FC man Nu Brown.

Brown had a busy, if not brief, spell in Super League with the Kiwi international arriving before the 2024 season as one of FC’s major signings from down under.

He was controversially sent off in Round Two against Warrington Wolves for accidental head contact with the huge fallout seeing the RFL amend the laws.

Despite having that ban overturned, his time in England was over by mid-April after playing just eight times with Brown released alongside full-back Tex Hoy as Hull FC amidst a dire run of form for Hull FC.

Brown was granted a release on compassionate grounds to return down under and within a week he had found himself a new club in St George Illawarra Dragons.

After just one season, the Dragons have now released after confirming the departure of nine players from the club. He would only play six games for the club.

The deal that the 29-year-old had signed kept him with St George through the end of the current campaign and with a year’s option for 2025 in the club’s favour, something that has not been triggered.

It was an improved season for St George who finished two points outside the play-offs. losing their final game of the year against Morgan Smithies’ Canberra Raiders 26-24 to cut any hope of making the eight.

A win in that game and a draw between the Dolphins and Newcastle Knights would have seen an improbable return to the play-offs for the Dragons but it wasn’t to be.

The club have now confirmed the exits of Brown alongside confirmed departures such as Zac Lomax, the Blues winger who has signed for Parramatta, Jack Bird who been one of Benji Marshall’s recent signings and Savelio Tamale who is heading to Canberra Raiders.

A further five with destinations unclear were released in Max Feagis, Jesse Marscke, Dan Russell, Jackson Shereb and Alex Tuitavake.

It’s unclear what the future holds for Brown but several Super League sides do have quota spots available meaning he could yet grace these shores again.
