NRL club already has replacement ready for Super League linked star

Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has confirmed he will join Hull KR in 2025.

Catalans Dragons have made a habit of signing star players from the Sydney Roosters partially because of the role Steve McNamara’s at the Roosters in the past as assistant to a former Catalans Dragons boss in the shape of Trent Robinson.

They have signed the likes of James Maloney and Mitchell Pearce who led the Roosters to Grand Final glory in 2013.

They signed 2018 NRL Champion Dylan Napa who was let go ahead of next season and have brought in Siosiua Taukeiaho for the new season and were even linked with Jared Waerea-Hargreaves though.

The New Zealand international featured in the Rugby League World Cup during which he was linked with a move to the Dragons.

That move won’t happen going into 2023, with the Dragons instead chasing former Warrington Wolves and Salford Red Devils forward Ben Murdoch-Masila as the replacement for Napa.

However, a move for the experienced forward in 2024 is perhaps likely especially now that the Daily Telegraph is reporting that they already have their replacement ready for the legendary prop.

Xavier Va’a is being groomed to take over from Jared Waerea-Hargreaves as a Roosters’ long-term enforcer, after Brisbane Broncos lost interest in the young forward who is expected to develop into a top forward impressing as a 19-year-old.
