Sam Burgess targeting NRL star for huge Super League transfer

The likes of Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves and Hull KR have all secured NRL signings for 2024 whilst Leeds Rhinos, Hull FC and Huddersfield Giants have been linked with NRL targets lately.

All three were linked with Adam Clune next year with the Newcastle Knights halfback targeted to solve halfback issues.

In the end he has reportedly signed for Huddersfield Giants whilst Hull FC have turned their attention to Shawn Blore and Franklin Pele.

Now another potential target has emerged for Super League clubs in the shape of Morgan Harper.

Just 24, the centre has plenty of potential. He started his career at Canterbury Bulldogs before joining the Manly Sea Eagles.

He has made over 50 NRL appearances and is only going to get better.

However, Manly are set to part company with the centre according to the Daily Telegraph making him a potential target for Super League clubs.

Now one Super League club has made their move according to Code Sports as Sam Burgess and the Warrington Wolves make a play.

Teammate Matt Lodge was initially linked with a move when he was at Sydney Roosters. However, in an unexpected twist Lodge has joined Manly Sea Eagles for the rest of this season on a train and trial contract.

He is trying to earn a deal with the Sea Eagles for next year but it doesn’t mean that the door to Super League is completely shut.

That being said, it seems as though Manly Sea Eagles will offer Lodge a bumper top 30 contract for next year according to the Daily Telegraph.

However, the prop has been at the centre of a transfer scandal according to Fox League.

The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio revealed the details of his contract at Manly and raised concerns it was setting a dangerous precedent.

“It’s slightly more than $1000,” he said on NRL360

“I have concerns when you sign a player valued at around $600,000 at his previous club and then comes into another club with seven or eight weeks left in the season and signs for a train and trial level of contract.

“I don’t see how it’s right that you can pick up a player of $600,000 value and pay him much less to help you get to the finals.”

Riccio revealed the NRL was ready to step in.

“If he’s selected this weekend and continues to play for the Manly Sea Eagles there will be a value placed on Lodge that has salary cap implications going forward.”
