NRL and Tonga star would “love” Super League move and identifies player he would like to play alongside

The World Cup always brings together some of the best players on the planet.

Australia will be captained by a world class fullback in James Tedesco whilst perhaps the world’s best at the moment Nathan Cleary will likely be in the halves.

New Zealand, as Leeds Rhinos saw first hand, have some of the finest forwards on the planet but perhaps the best big man around is North Queensland Cowboys’ and Tonga’s Jason Taumalolo.

A player everyone needs to see in the flesh, it’s possible that Super League fans could get that opportunity with the forward very open to the deal though he joked he would have to get out of his long term deal at the Cowboys to do so

“If I didn’t sign a lifetime deal with the Cowboys,” he said, “I’d love to come to this side of the world and play footy and do what I love on this side of the world.

“When? I have no idea, I’d have to lose my left arm for the Cowboys to get rid of me.”

Some of the temptations would be the travelling but also the possible chance to play alongside an international teammate who is headed to Super League in 2023 with the Catalans Dragons: “I like travelling and seeing this side of the world, I’d love to come play over here and maybe play alongside Siosiua Taukeiaho, I’ve played against him too many times.”

So, could we see Taumalolo in a Catalans’ shirt soon?

Well it all depends on his body: “I’d love to do it, it’s on my bucket list. I guess the only question is: would my body allow it? I’m 29 now, played professionally for over a decade and it takes its toll.”
