Nominees for Super League Young Player of the Year revealed with Leeds Rhinos and St Helens among representatives

Three players have been shortlisted for the prestigious Betfred Super League Young Player of the Year award following stand-out performances this season.

The three nominees, as selected by the England Performance Unit, are;

Morgan Gannon – Leeds Rhinos

Morgan cemented his place within the Leeds team despite only being 18 years old and is made more remarkable that he plays in the forwards. His contribution to the Rhinos has seen him become a consistent performer for them in 2022. For a second year running, Morgan has been selected for the England Knights squad in 2022.

Mikey Lewis – Hull KR

A mid-season injury interrupted a promising season in 2022, which has seen Lewis progress on from last year and further contribute with some individual inspirational tries, which aided Rovers success in the early part of the season. For a second year, Mikey has been selected for the England Knights squad in 2022.

Jack Welsby – St Helens

Jack is one of only a few players to be nominated for a second year and is the reigning Young Player of the Year. Jack has made a huge contribution to the success of St Helens this season, showing his versatility in playing both in the halves and fullback. His selection for the England squad in 2022 is further recognition of his progress and success following on from 2021.

On the evening, fans will be able to watch the unveiling of the 2022 Man of Steel live on Betfred Super League’s YouTube channel here.

Full details of the broadcast will be announced ahead of the Awards.

Alongside the Betfred Super League Young Player of the Year, other awards that will be presented on the evening include Top Try Scorer, Top Tackler, Loch Lomond Spirit of Super League, Betfred Coach of the Year and the prestigious Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel.
