With big changes coming for when Super League contract discussions can open up, we’ve looked at the Hull KR players with pressing contracts.
The change relates to players who will head off-contract at the end of the current season, in this case, the players who see their deal expire at the end of the 2025 season.
In recent years, rival clubs could only begin negotiations with players from other teams on or after May 1st but that has widely been labelled a myth, including by Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont who argued: “The 1st of May deadline is actually a completely pointless thing.”
That was somewhat highlighted by the fact that Hull KR star Ryan Hall was announced as a signing for Leeds Rhinos prior to that deadline.
The new deadline is December 1st which is less than one month away and Hull KR could be heavily affected with nine of their players seeing deals expire at the end of 2025, thus making them available to negotiate with meaning the Robins may wish to sort those deals sooner rather than later. We’ve checked out all nine players.
Nine Hull KR players with pressing contracts
There is a wide range of players that Hull KR will see go off contract at the end of the 2025 season, ranging from stars to new signings and even young talents.
Among the young talents are Connor Barley, Neil Tchamambe and AJ Wallace with all three players being 21 or younger.
Wallace is the eldest at 21 and signed for Hull KR ahead of the 2024 season but didn’t play a game for the Robins and was loaned out to all of Doncaster, Featherstone and Whitehaven.
Tchamambe featured heavily for the reserves whilst Barley penned an extension to keep him with the club for 2025 back in August. The outside back has played in Super League but not since Round 21 last year when the Robins fielded a young team prior to the Challenge Cup Final.
First-team players who are without a deal for 2026 or beyond include Niall Evalds, Dean Hadley, Tyrone May and Sauaso Sue with all four men proving pivotal in the 2024 campaign.
Evalds quickly established himself as the first-choice full-back whilst May played in all but one game for the Robins during his first year with the club.
Dean Hadley was monumental down the stretch for KR whilst Sauaso Sue could be considered unlucky not to get a Dream Team nod given his impressive second season at Craven Park. You’d expect that all four will be priority re-signings for the club.
The other two players without a deal for 2026 or beyond and thus able to negotiate with rivals from December 1st are new signings Michael McIlorum and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves with the two veterans only inking one-year deals.
McIlorum replaces Matt Parcell and will rotate with Jez Litten whilst NRL icon JWH brings a whole new dynamic to the Hull KR pack.
