Tyme Dow-Nikau has left York City Knights to return home to his native New Zealand.

Dow-Nikau joined York from Betfred League One side North Wales Crusaders ahead of the start of the 2021 Championship season.

The Kiwi – son of famous rugby league star Tawera, who starred for the likes of Castleford, York and Warrington in the 1990s and 2000s – found opportunities limited at the beginning of last season, but began to make that centre spot his own towards the back end of 2020.

Dow-Nikau ends his York career with four tries in 12 appearances, with eight starting berths in York’s last eight games – one of which included the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

Dow-Nikau tweeted: “Had a ball and been a pleasure to have been a part of the club. Up the Kneets.”

York, meanwhile, have been recruiting heavily for the 2022 Championship with the likes of Jamie Ellis and Pauli Pauli coming through the doors, with key men such as Danny Kirmond, Chris Clarkson and Brendan O’Hagan extending their stays at the LNER Community Stadium.
