Newcastle Thunder tie down former Bradford Bulls man as preparations continue for 2023

Newcastle Thunder have continued their preparations for the 2023 season with their fifth retention in the shape of Brad Gallagher formerly of the Bradford Bulls.

Gallagher is the fifth player from the 2022 squad to commit to the Thunder fold for next year after recent announcements confirmed Craig Mullen, Jack Johnson, Connor Bailey and Jake Shorrocks would be staying at the club.

Gallagher joined Thunder from fellow Betfred Championship side Bradford Bulls ahead of the 2022 season. The back rower made a total of 14 appearances for the West Yorkshire outfit over three seasons.

In his maiden campaign at the club, the 22-year-old featured 22 times across and scored four tries in Thunder colours.

Speaking on his decision to stay at Thunder, Gallagher said: “I’m buzzing to get back in the Toon, link up with the boys and build on a lot from last year.

“We obviously had a tough year and weren’t anywhere near good enough, but I enjoyed every single minute of it of being out there in Thunder colours.

“With the lads who are staying, along with Chris and the boys who are joining us, I’m really looking forward to giving all of our families and the fans performances and results that they’ll be proud of.”

As the squad begins to build ahead of preseason, Chair, Keith Christie said: “We’re delighted to have been able to retain some of the great talent from last year.

“We know it’s been a tough time of recent for the players, but we want to thank them for their ongoing commitment to Newcastle Thunder and look forward to seeing what the new season holds for the club.”
