Newcastle Thunder sign Castleford Tigers forward Lewis Peachey on season long loan

Newcastle Thunder have added Castleford Tigers forward Lewis Peachey to their ranks.

Peachey joins the North East side on a season-long loan, though the Tigers do have a recall option if they so wish to use it.

The 20-year-old joined Castleford’s youth system via the Tigers Talent Pathway at the age of 14 before progressing through Scholarship and Academy levels and then onto the First Team stage.

Peachey made his debut back in 2019 against the Catalans Dragons and has gone on to make a further 12 appearances in Cas colours.

An uncompromising player who carries intensity in his contact, Peachey enjoys attacking off quick play the balls and tries to bring pace into the middle.

Peachy is a versatile forward and can play across most positions in the pack, including prop and second row.

Whilst the loan to Thunder is for the full 2022 Betfred Championship season, a recall mechanism is in place, should the Tigers need to bring the player back to the Mend-A-Hose jungle.

Linking up with his new team-mates for the first time last week, Peachey has enjoyed his early Newcastle Thunder experience and is looking forward to the season ahead.

Peachey said: “I really enjoyed the first week. All of the lads and the coaches have been great and it has been good to get to know everyone and to get settled in.

“I’ve had that first taste of playing first-team rugby and I think Thunder will be a good opportunity to get more of that, improve as a player and gain the experience that is going to be key for me to improve and help the team.

Newcastle Thunder head coach Eamon O’Carroll said: “Lewis is a good young player with Super League experience and is looking for more first-team opportunities to progress as a player.

“That is something that he has the chance to claim here with us as well as training in a full-time environment as he’s used to.

“He’s only been with us for a short time but has already made contributions to the group and I’m looking forward to working with him this season.
