Newcastle sign second Wigan halfback

Former Wigan Warriors halfback Jake Shorrocks will join Newcastle Thunder for the 2021 Championship season.

He has demonstrated his abilities in 37 games in the top-flight since he made his debut back in June 2016 against Widnes Vikings for the Warriors.

With experience of the Championship from loan spells with Workington Town and Swinton Lions, Shorrocks is an exciting talent who arrives on Tyneside eager to progress his own career as he helps Thunder achieve their own ambitions.

Speaking about his move, Shorrocks said: “I’m really excited to sign for Thunder. I’ve reached a point where I want to develop myself as a player and coming to the north east is a really exciting prospect.

“I’ve read in the media the goals the club are setting for themselves and speaking to Denis and Eamon, they explained a bit more about that to me and I can’t wait for us to get started.

“Achieving the goals that Thunder are setting will be exciting for everyone involved and for rugby league as a whole and being involved in that is something I really want to be part of.”

Director of rugby Denis Betts said: “Jake is an established half with Super League experience and has come from a great background.

“He is a player whose ambition matches that of the club, and he sees us as somewhere we he can advance his career by being a part of us achieving our goals. He is an exciting talent with an excellent kicking game and is very strong with the ball in hand.
