Newcastle Knights are looking to bring in former Hull KR and Salford boss Tim Sheens to work alongside new coach Adam O’Brien.
The Knights confirmed O’Brien as Nathan Brown’s successor for the next three years earlier this week, which has also ruled him out of the running for the vacant position at St Helens.
And it now seems the club are lining up Tim Sheens to assist O’Brien in what is understood to be a technical director role, with CEO Philip Gardner and football director Brian Canavan already making contact.
“BC [Canavan] and I rang Tim Sheens yesterday,” Gardner said.
“He still has contractual obligations in England. He would be happy to have a conversation with us. That will be a decision of the head coach.
“[Halves mentor] Allan Bell is already involved in the club and someone like Michael Hagan has also come up. That will be the head coach, he will make the decision and who the assistants will be. We want him, and BC and I will support him, to make sure we make the best decision for the club.”
