Newcastle announce young player return

Newcastle Thunder have announced young forward David Weetman has signed a new contract for the 2020 season.

He spent time in 2019 out on loan at Keighley Cougars last season, but will return to the Thunder fold in the new year.

A former Cramlington Rockets junior, Weetman came through the Thunder academy in 2018, and spent time out on loan to further develop his skills.

Weetman told the club website: “I’m thrilled to be back after being out at Keighley last season. It was a good experience for me, it allowed me to test myself out of my comfort zone and was a good way to get some valuable game time. I’m confident that the experience will help me in my career and for this season at Thunder”

“I want to keep developing as a player and add to my existing appearances for the club by cementing a spot within the match day 17. I know that will be difficult with the quality players we have signed and retained, but I will work hard and push myself to be in the best position possible to do so come the start of the season”
