New Zealand Warriors star Chanel Harris-Tavita ‘could easily pick up a contract in Super League’

Chanel Harris-Tavita is set for crunch contract talks with the New Zealand Warriors next week ahead of a potential deal to ward off any rivals.

The elusive halfback is currently being chased by three NRL clubs, including the Canberra Raiders according to Stuff, but the Warriors want to keep him.

It remains a difficult proposition for the talented youngster, however, with Harris-Tavita low down in the pecking order at the Warriors currently.

Shaun Johnson is a big name, but the Warriors picked up new recruit Daejarn Asi from the North Queensland Cowboys two weeks and he has enjoyed a rich vein of form in recent weeks.

The Warriors have also signed sensation from Sydney Roosters, Ronald Volkman, on a three-year deal for the future so it could be difficult for Harris-Tavita to earn a deal he wants.

However, Stuff believes that the elusive halfback could easily make the move to the UK.

Stuff said: “Harris-Tavita could easily pick up a contract in Super League, but he is young enough and talented enough to remain in the NRL and he is one of the best halves coming off contract at the end of the season.

“Stuff understands at least three NRL clubs are showing interest in Harris-Tavita, with the Raiders one of them. But given O’Sullivan’s previous reluctance to offer him a deal, the Dolphins may not be after him, despite their so far fruitless search for halves.”
