Warrington have made a series of major signings in a bid to improve on last season’s disappointing 11th placed finish.

The Wire had a poor season by their standard and head coach Daryl Powell has been given the freedom to put together a squad that can challenge once again.

New signings for the Wolves include Catalans trio Josh Drinkwater, Sam Kasiano and Gil Dudson.

Matty Russell has also been re-signed following a 13 try campaign for Toulouse last season but it’s new NRL signing Josh McGuire that many are most excited about.

McGuire will bring some experience to their forward pack and even played in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup final for Australia when they beat England 6-0.

With over 250 NRL appearances, he’s someone who clearly loves the game and he hopes to bring that enthusiasm to the Super League.

“I’m what you would call a footy head. I just love the game of rugby league in all parts of the world,” McGuire said in the Wolves’ Fan Forums podcast.

He continued: “I was very fortunate to have a long career in the NRL but to come to Warrington and put on this jersey is something very important to me.

“I’m at an age where physically I still feel really good and that if I was to come over here, then I didn’t want to come over here to make up the numbers.”

That sentiment from McGuire about not wanting to just make up the numbers echoes what the recently re-signed Matty Russell said.

In a tweet posted by the Wolves earlier in the week Russell could be seen talking about his return to the Halliwell Jones and made it clear he was back to make a difference.

“Whether it’s getting a game from round one or if it takes till round twenty one, I’ll be pushing every week to try and get that spot and pushing everyone else in training,” said Russell.

More of what Russell had to say can be read here.
