New Super League signing to engage in boxing match before move

Catalans Dragons have often been at the forefront when it comes to bringing in the biggest stars from Australia’s NRL to England.

They’ve enticed NRL winners James Maloney, Mitchell Pearce and Tyrone May in recent seasons.

Meanwhile, they have been courting Sydney Roosters forward Sio Siua Taukeiaho since the midway point of the 2021 season.

However, a move could only be completed in time for 2023 and that’s exactly what happened.

The Dragons will have Taukeiaho in their squad in 2023 and perhaps are so confident of his quality that they have let go of Sam Kasiano and Gil Dudson who move to Warrington Wolves.

Meanwhile, Dylan Napa has also been told he can leave the club.

Taukeiaho has been captaining Tonga in the first two games of the World Cup and a rare kick against Papua New Guinea helped create the match winning try underlying his quality.

So, a major signing for Super League, before he arrives he wants to enjoy a boxing bout.

The forward is set to come to France over Christmas and has been preparing for a boxing match in Warrington whilst in England for the World Cup.

Boxing guru Peter Mitrevski Jnr is looking after the prop and is tipping him to take on Paul Gallen saying to the Daily Telegraph: “He’s got unbelievable power. He hits the pads harder than anyone I’ve felt.

“I sent him to Martin Murray (a former world champion) and he said he has genuine world class power.

“I wonder who is going to be game enough to step into the ring with him.

“If Main Event is looking for its next star after Paul Gallen, Sio Siua is the man.”
