New St Helens signing opens up on move and Konrad Hurrell

It’s a reunion that will only help St Helens heading into the 2022 Super League season.

Will Hopoate and Kristian Woolf go back a long way; from the Tongan national side to now a Super League partnership, the duo are aiming to inspire Saints to a fourth Grand Final victory in a row.

Hopoate signed a two-year deal with the option of a third and he cannot wait to get started.

“I’m enjoying being here, it was exciting coming in this morning,” Hopoate told Saints TV.

“It feels like the first day of school, I’m really happy to be here and I’m looking forward to the time ahead.”

The 29-year-old goes way back with a number of the new Saints signings – especially former Leeds Rhinos star Konrad Hurrell, who jumped into Hopoate’s interview to spray water on the former Canterbury Bulldogs star.

“I’ve met a few of the boys from the Australia and some of the new boys in the academy and unfortunately I know Koni!

“I’m looking forward to meeting the whole playing squad and earn their respect.

“There was a bit of skill involved in my first day and a bit of conditioning to get the body moving – I got off the flight last night so it was really good.

“The flight was ok, the kids slept most of it!”

Hopoate is eager to make a good impression at the Totally Wicked Stadium, particularly following St Helens’ recent incredible run.

“I know I’ve come into a successful club with a rich history, I’ll try do my best to do everyone proud.”
