In a surprise, whirlwind turn of events, it’s now being reported that Sydney Roosters man Luke Keary has indeed signed for a Super League side for 2025.
He’s been with the Roosters since 2017, making over 150 appearances for Easts and winning two NRL Grand Finals in his time there, as well as getting a Clive Churchill Medal.
That’s since making the cross-city switch from rivals South Sydney Rabbitohs, the side that he won his first NRL Premiership with.
This year, he’s been named in the extended State of Origin NSW side.
Last month, he signed an extension to his contract with the Roosters that would see him stay there through next year.
The half-back is seen by many as being amongst the best playmakers in NRL, and at 32 years old, he should still have a few seasons ahead of him.
However, he then announced that he’d be retiring after the current NRL season.
Since then, there’s been a series of contrasting reports on his future.

It had been reported that Keary had changed his mind about retirement, and that he’d be joining Catalans Dragons and former Roosters coach, Steve McNamara.
This was broken on Sunday in England, but Wide World of Sports in Australia rubbished those reports, speaking to his agent, Paul Sutton, who “was adamant that the playmaker was happy with his decision to hang up the boots.”
Now, there’s yet another twist in the tale, as the latest report from Fox Sports Australia today suggests that he will indeed be heading to the south of France for 2025, joining Joey Manu and Joseph Sua’ali’i through the Roosters exit door.
They went as far as saying he’d actually signed for next season, in a major boost for the Dragons, who may well have another high-profile signing to add to that of Tommy Makinson.
This now means the Roosters will be looking to replace those high-profile departures – especially as Angus Crichton hasn’t yet committed for next season.
