New Grand Final venue revealed in sensational move

Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium is set to host the 2021 NRL Grand Final with a deal almost finalised to take it to Queensland for the first time.

The Sunshine State is set to be the host as a result of the continued COVID-19 outbreak in New South Wales, meaning Sydney’s Stadium Australia will not be able to take on the showpiece event.

Nine News has reported that the Queensland Government wasn’t required to bid for the Grand Final, but were given the rights following their success in maintaining the integrity of the 2021 NRL season.

“A deal is all-but done, and it looks like Suncorp Stadium will host this year’s NRL Grand Final,” Nine News Queensland’s Peter Fegan said. “The deal just needs to be finalised and signed off on.

“Queensland didn’t have to bid for the right to host this year’s final. Queensland was being rewarded for their good work in containing the COVID outbreak and the fact that Queensland has saved this year’s NRL competition.”

With the increase in cases in the state of Victoria, Melbourne’s MCG could not be chosen despite being in the running.

The 2021 NRL Grand Final will take place on Sunday October 3rd and will be broadcast live and exclusive on Channel Nine.
