St Helens suffered the latest in a long string of embarrassing moments this season today, as they were humiliated by Hull KR.
Many supporters were unhappy with head coach Paul Wellens, suggesting that he isn’t what’s right for the club at the moment.
They have had major injuries, but were recently defeated five games in-a-row for the first time in the Super League era.
Last week, they were nilled by rivals Wigan Warriors at Magic Weekend, and now they have been defeated 42-6 by Hull KR.
Now, they’re faced with the possibility of missing out on the Super League playoffs for the very first time in the club’s history.
“Needs to go” – St Helens fans furious after latest heavy defeat
Supporters are, understandably, unhappy with recent performances, and many took to social media to air their frustrations after the latest set-back.
@Mike_Athey_: “Where are all the fans that were defending him weeks ago? He needs to go. It’s embarrassing. The players don’t want to play for him.”
@robertpilk13: “We’ll be lucky if we finish 7th . Wellens should be gone. Two yrs and won us nothing. The WCC was arguably woolfs achievement and he’s not built anything on that”
@StumpyMc68: “How long before wellens is shown the door. He is a back room member of staff not the coach of the rudderless first team.”
@DarrenHunter72: “New coaching staff required. Rush out!!”
However, he has recently been handed a new contract through 2025.
Not everyone took a shot at Wellens, however – noting the poor performance of the side overall, and pointing to recruitment.
@Apple09130616: “The poor people that work hard during the week to pay for that dribble”
@PeterElder74: “A disgrace of a performance, we need a clearout of players to be honest, too many not good enough and others past it, leaving the young lads to try and carry this struggling club forward on their own. Discipline shocking, too many errors and dull tactics from the coaches too”
@AK121068: “As bad as it’s been, this is a new low. Totally indefensible and utterly unacceptable.”

Saints very ordinary , KR Very good, simple as that .
This saints team is unrecognisable from teams gone by , poor recruitment , poor coaching and retention of players that are past their sell by date, this is the result .
