NCL Referee running between clubs for RL Cares

NCL Referee Ellis McCarthy has announced he will be doing a run between all 49 NCL clubs to raise money for RL Cares.

McCarthy, who is a Grade Two referee, hopes he will be able to highlight the struggles for community clubs during lockdown.

He will be running over 29 days between Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria before finishing in Newcastle. His journey will total 162 miles.

McCarthy says on his Just Giving Page: “I am going to run between every one of the NCL clubs and their neighbours during my lockdown exercise periods and I am hoping I can attract sponsorship along the way, as well as raising awareness not only of the charity RL Cares, but of the 49 clubs within the flagship League of the Community Game.

“I just want people to know that there are Community Rugby League clubs out there who are struggling during the lockdown and that they are a vital part of the community that we cannot afford to lose.

“Hopefully, the clubs and their players will follow my progress and give me some support along the way. I will give mentions to those following me in my progress blogs and hopefully raise some much-needed cash for RLCares.”
