The latest ‘My Top 5’ comes from former NRL centre Matt Cooper, who spent his entire career at St George Illawarra Dragons, as well as representing New South Wales in State of Origin and Australia on the international stage.
Below are, in Matt’s words, the five best players he has played against in his career…
5. Johnathan Thurston
He had so much heart and determination and never gave up. His ability to kick goals from anywhere on the field made him even more valuable to have in the side.
4. Darren Lockyer
Almost as gifted as Andrew Johns, but had a massive heart! Was at the top of his game for his whole career and could run the show with his little finger.
3. Andrew Johns
Had the highest game IQ of anyone I’d ever played against. He could see things happen before they did and could change the game in an instant.
2. Jarryd Hayne
Jarryd had everything you want as a player; the only reason he is not number one is he only played well in big games. He had pace, an incredible sidestep and was a great competitor.
1. Sonny Bill Williams
He is big, strong and fast with great footwork. Sonny Bill had the best offload I’ve seen and he was also very skilful. Being good looking also helped!
