The latest ‘My Top 5’ comes from Featherstone Rovers forward Dale Ferguson, who is currently playing in the Championship after spells at Huddersfield, Wakefield, Hull KR and Bradford.
Below are, in Dale’s words, the five best players he has played against in his career so far.
5. Paul Sculthorpe
Played against ‘Scully’ when I was first coming through as a young kid. The game just seemed effortless to him and he always led from the front.
4. David Solomona
He is still the most skilful player I’ve ever played against. Had the honour to be in the Wakefield team with him and he always made an effort to progress us young lads at the time.
3. Gareth Ellis
One of the toughest opponents I’ve ever played against. He never did anything malicious, he was just a hard, solid player who competed to win all the time.
2. Sam Burgess
I came through the younger camps with Sam, though he always played a year above with us. He was a big physical player with class and skill as everyone knows.
1. Jason Taumalolo
I played a few World Cup games against Jason and every time he’s been the stand-out player of the game. If he’s not running over the top of people, he’s side-stepping them. For a big fella, he has a massive work rate and plays big minutes.
