“My family were quite shocked” – Leeds star opens up on harrowing experience

Konrad Hurrell (4) of Leeds Rhinos celebrates his try

For King Vuniyayawa, the past few weeks have been troublesome.

After picking up some good form for Leeds, the Fijian prop was hit with news that he had contracted Covid – and it was something that he described as “dangerous”.

“It was quite tough, it was quite new and it was the first time I experienced Covid,” he said.

“It wasn’t something I expected. It didn’t really hit me quite as hard but it’s still pretty dangerous, just for how contagious it is.

“I had to isolate for ten days and that was quite tough missing training when it’s something you really love doing. It hit me pretty hard mentally and it’s something I’ll remember.

“I’d say to everyone to be really careful out there as well. I’m back out and training today and so glad to be out of that isolation period. I’m really hungry to get back out on the field again.

“My family were quite shocked, they were quite worried but supportive – they knew I’d get through it.

“The club checked up on me every day and it helped me a lot.”
