MP says Super League needs this club

There is often a debate about expansion in rugby league.

This comes especially in light of IMG’s proposals.

One place that it has always been reported that IMG are keen on bringing success to is London.

And this is something shared by MP, House Speaker and RFL President Sir Lindsay Hoyle who has called for the sport to do better in the capital.

“I think London has got more to offer. I’ve always said the same and that’s you need strong competition in London,” he said on BBC Five Live.

“If you think of how many clubs are in Sydney, well look at the size of London and yet we’ve not got one big club anymore in Super League.

“We need the Broncos to do well, we need to bring other clubs through and I think that’s what really really matters for me.

“We’ve got a major capital city, we play at it and we duck in and duck out. We’ve got to be committed.

“They need their own ground. Rugby league should be looking to buy an establishment in London so we have an ownership of a piece of London where we can play rugby league and develop it.”

It has been suggested that London Broncos will benefit from IMG’s grading system because of the catchment section.
