With no reserves game this weekend, plenty of Super League clubs have taken the opporunity to use the loan market this week.
With Leeds Rhinos having nine players out at other clubs, be that in the top flight or elsewhere, Hull FC having three and Hull KR having two, it means that a lot of young and developing players will get the chance to play first team rugby, with the vast majority turning out in the Championship.
Wakefield Trinity and St Helens have become the latest clubs to send players out, with Trinity allowing five players join second tier sides this weekend.
Half-back Myles Lawford was due to spend the 2026 season on loan at Halifax Panthers, but their financial troubles and liquidation meant that loan was terminated. With the Panthers now back up and running, he will see out the season with Kyle Eastmond’s side, as he represents the club his father, Dean, did in 2001, 2005 and 2006.
Joining him will be teammate Kian McGann, who is another to have already played for Fax this season. However, McGann’s loan is only for the next fortnight and he will return to the club following that.
Also on the move is promising young prop Ellis Lingard, who has re-joined Dewsbury Rams. The 2025 Super League debutant will link up with Paul March’s side for the next fortnight.
Lastly, Trinity pair Rowan Stephenson and Alfie Briggs have both joined Cumbrian side Whitehaven, and will be in contention for their next two matches against Lingard’s Dewsbury and Swinton Lions.
Both those players featured in Wakefield’s Boxing Day game over Leeds Rhinos in pre-season, and have been regular members of the reserves side so far this season.
St Helens just have the one loanee, as forward Alfie Sinclair also joins Haven on a short-term deal.
