More players fall ill to COVID as derby threatened

Hull KR boss Tony Smith has revealed to Hull Live that more of his players have fallen ill to COVID-19, which could threaten the Hull KR-Hull FC derby next week.

Rovers have already had to postpone one Super League fixture – against St Helens this week – following the positive tests of five players and the isolation of nine others.

Though PCR tests have been undertaken by both the playing and coaching staff, training is unlikely to go ahead before next week.

“Some players have gone off and had their own tests done because they were feeling under the weather,” Smith told Hull Live.

“They’ve mainly got flu-like symptoms, some worse than others.

“Some have had a positive test but feel fine – it varies.

“We’ve got multiple cases, as to how many I can’t definitely tell you, but we probably won’t exactly know until these tests are completed.

“Until the official results come in it’s no use speculating from my side of things.”
