Missing ex-St Helens and Bradford Bulls prop Bryn Hargreaves suffered car crash

It’s been revealed that the missing ex-Bradford Bulls and St Helens, Bryn Hargreaves, suffered a car crash back in December which left him having to rely on Ubers or walking.

The 36-year-old has been living in the USA for ten years after making the move to the States following his retirement from rugby league.

Hargreaves hasn’t contacted his family since the beginning of January, with a colleague of the former forward getting in touch with his family to ask about his wellbeing following the lack of contact and sightings.

Just before the Covid-19 pandemic erupted in 2020, Hargreaves moved jobs to Morgantown in West Virginia which is where he was last seen, but the crash on December 8 left him with a back injury and a Jeep that could not be driven, the Daily Mirror has revealed.

When police tried the door to his apartment on January 16, it was unlocked whilst his wallet and keys were left untouched on the side.

Hargreaves’ brother, David, who has been in the States with their mother in a bid to find him, confirmed the car crash had left his sibling frustrated.

“He hasn’t been in a good place, ” he told the Dominion Post.

“I think COVID, the crash, the season — Christmas — and I think something along with the medication because of his injury,” his mother added.

Detective Stephen Currie, the lead investigator on the case, said: “We have people out there almost every day. It hasn’t been easy with the snow.

“It takes time. I know people get frustrated. We know he’s not driving his car.”

His brother added: “We know the police are doing everything they can. And we’re so thankful for the support of everyone else, with the social media push.”

The 36-year-old began his career at the Wigan Warriors, registering 28 appearances between 2004 and 2006 before being brought to St Helens.

There he made 115 appearances, scoring eight tries and started for Saints in their Challenge Cup triumph over Hull FC in 2008.

After appearing in three Grand Final defeats, Hargreaves left for the Bradford Bulls where he registered another 54 Super League appearances.
