Mikey Lewis ‘on radar’ of NRL clubs as Wests Tigers Chief names him ‘best no.7 in Super League’

Wests Tigers Chief Executive, Shane Flanagan, has been making a name for himself in Super League circles in recent weeks. The Wests man threw the transfer market into chaos recently when he flew into the country with a mandate to offload some of the Tigers’ biggest names. Now, he has reportedly turned his sights to Mikey Lewis.

Flanagan has reportedly been attempting to arrange deals for some of the club’s biggest names with Super League clubs. John Bateman leads the list of players the club is looking to move on, along with Jayden Sullivan and Brent Naden.

The Wests Tigers will bring in superstar, Jarome Luai, from the Penrith Panthers in the off-season on a 5-year contract reportedly worth $6 million. However, that has not stopped Flanagan from eyeing up some of Super League’s top talent while he is in the country.

Now, according to one respected pundit, he has been speaking very highly of England International, Lewis.

Former Sky sports commentator, Eddie Hemmings, discussed Mikey Lewis’ future on the Sportsman’s Rugby League podcast. Hemmings explained that Flanagan is currently in the UK and has expressed his admiration for Lewis. Hemmings said:

“Shane Richardson from Wests Tigers, he’s over here. He used to be CEO in the Super League, Gateshead, wasn’t he? He’s been around the tracks a bit. Shane Richardson reckons that Mikey Lewis is the best number seven in Super League.

“So there might be a hint there. There might be a little hint there that Mikey Lewis might be on the radar of some NRL clubs, who knows? But he is a great little player.”

Hull KR welcome the Huddersfield Giants to Craven Park tonight and will be hoping to take their strong form into the second half of the Super League season. The Robins currently sit third in the table, ahead on the Warrington Wolves on points difference. Lewis has been their stand-out player this season and is crucial to their good form.

With the England-Samoa test series confirmed for the end of the season, he will be hoping to force his way into Shaun Wane’s plans, having made his debut in last season’s end of year series against Tonga.
