Mikey Lewis makes bite allegation as Hull KR hammer Catalans

Super League disciplinary

Hull KR star and England half-back Mikey Lewis has made an allegation of biting during his side’s Super League Magic Weekend 36-4 victory over Catalans Dragons.

The win sees Hull KR return to the top of Super League and leaves Catalans in that group of three teams on 26 points alongside St Helens and Salford Red Devils.

Approaching the hour mark with Hull KR leading 22-4, a melee occurred which resulted in Lewis making the allegation to referee Tom Grant.

On Sky Sports’ coverage of the game, Grant could be heard on the referee mic explaining to KR captain Elliot Minchella, Mikey Lewis and touch judge Warren Turley what the situation was.

Grant explained: “There’s been an allegation of biting. I need you here Warren as a witness. The incident has gone on report.”

Making his case, Lewis furiously pointed to his hand arguing: “You can see it (bite mark) there, it’s clear as day.”

The incident will now be looked at post-game and could be assessed by the Match Review Panel on Monday but on-field Grant sent both sides away with a stern warning to the captains as he awarded a penalty to Hull KR.

The incident occurred when the game was almost out of sight but just five minutes later, Hull KR added another try with Ryan Hall scoring his second of the game to make it a 26-4 lead and ensure the Robins both the two points and a return to the top of Super League.

KR had opened the scoring through captain Elliot Minchella when he crashed over early on but Les Dracs hit back quickly through second-rower Sironen.

Both kicks hit the post leaving the game at 4-4 but Hull KR would add a further two before the break through Peta Hiku and Ryan Hall, but again both remained unconverted.

Minchella added his second when he smartly ran at the offside Julian Bousquet to dart through untouched before Kelepi Tanginoa made it 22-4 in the lead-up to the alleged bite before Hall’s second shortly after it.

Tanginoa would score his second before a late Tyrone May kick was pouched by Niall Evalds who grounded to add an eighth try, however, Lewis only managed to covert two of those as the Robins returned to the top of the league with a resounding 36-4 victory.
