Melbourne stars headed for Super League?

Wide World of Sports is reporting that NRL side Melbourne Storm have offered three players to Super League clubs in a bid to stay under the salary cap for the new season.

Reports suggest the cost of keeping stars such as Cameron Smith on the books has led to them coming perilously close to going over the salary cap limit.

As a result they are looking to offload Patrick Kaufusi, Cheyse Blair and prop forward Sam Kasiano with Super League the most likely destination.

Clubs in England have been sounded out about the players availability, which the Storm are said to prefer over letting them join rivals in the NRL.

Most clubs would struggle to find cap space anyway and despite the relaxation of the marquee player rule in England, it’s unlikely they will be able to find clubs for all three in England.

Most the bigger Super League clubs have their allotted two marquee signings, with the ones that haven’t probably unable to afford the wages these stars from the NRL would demand.

Melbourne have strongly denied the rumours of salary cap trouble saying that while it is possible one player could leave, it is not linked to any salary cap problems.
