McDermott to join Toronto as Head Coach

Brian McDermott has been linked with the head coaching role at Toronto Wolfpack, after the Canadian side were unsuccessful in their pursuit of promotion from the Championship.

Veteran coach, McDermott, was sacked by Leeds Rhinos after a champagne 8-year tenure. In that time the side won 4 Grand Finals, 2 Challenge Cups, a League Leaders shield and a World Club Challenge which led to question marks from fans, and journalists alike, as to why the decision was made by the club.

McDermott has been out of job since and this opportunity might just prove to be his most challenging yet, turning the Wolfpack into a stable Super League outfit.

Toronto, on the other hand, will be licking their wounds after a heartbreaking Million Pound Game loss to London Broncos at the weekend.

Paul Rowley’s side have spent two seasons in the English/European leagues and gained automatic promotion to the Championship in 2017, and topped the Championship table after the regular season in 2018. The side only just missed out on automatic promotion finishing 4th in the Middle 8’s, and secured a home tie for Million Pound Game, but fell short by 4 points to 2, in a game where nobody crossed the whitewash.

Toronto will be preparing for a tough season and Brian McDermott might be the key to unlock the Super League dream.
