Mcdermott hails his best ever Grand final win

Leeds Coach Brian McDermott has declared tonight’s victory over League Leaders Castleford as the best of the 4 he’s won in his 7 seasons  at  Headingley .

Following on from a disastrous season last year , where the Rhinos had to fight for Super League survival in the middle 8 , there were real calls for him to be sacked after an early season drubbing at Castleford .

McDermott told Sky sports ‘That’s the final chapter of the book , for us to make the Grand Final is a great story and we’ve just capped off the final chapter’ .

Mac was ridiculed after the Cas drubbing for saying that his side could still make the Grand final , he was to have the last laugh today as a Danny McGuire inspired Leeds beat local rivals Castleford 24-6 at Old Trafford .

‘I have been saying to my players all week that you don’t get many chances to have moments in life that stand out where every man, jack and his dog up the country will think, they can’t go and win the Grand Final can they? Not from where they were . We’ve done it. That group of people over there have gone through every emotion going in the last 18 months, the whole club.’

He dedicated the win to everyone that backed him through the troubles going on to say ,

‘This isn’t just a coach’s win or the players win. Everybody at Leeds Rhinos, including the fans, who stood with us when the dark times were really, really dark, this is everybody’s. The whole club deserves this.
Never did I dream in my wildest dreams that we’d get to Old Trafford never mind win it. Now look at us.
It’s the best win ever this one.’

McDermott will now head to the World Cup as Head Coach of the USA National team where they kick off their campaign against Fiji 3 weeks today .
