Matty Peet reveals the difference between Wigan Warriors and St Helens and has his say on bad Sam Powell tackle

Wigan Warriors fell to a 22-4 defeat away at the Totally Wicked Stadium today on Good Friday.

They crossed first through Jai Field, but that was as good as it got for Wigan with Saints posting 22 points without reply to run away with yet another derby clash.

For Wigan boss Matty Peet, there was a big difference between themselves and St Helens.

“There were lapses of concentration and when you play at that intensity, concentration is the difference between us and St Helens,” Peet said live on Sky Sports after the game.

“Credit to Saints they were too good for us over the 80 minutes – there were periods where we showed we could compete but ultimately we fell short.

“Maybe on a one off day someone can beat Saints, but consistently they are a level above.

“Maybe Catalans are there but we want to be in that chasing pack.”

One incident sparked the ire of Saints players as Jon Bennison was the victim of a crusher tackle from Sam Powell.

“It was a bad tackle, Sam is in there and he is gutted – he didn’t do it on purpose.

“He’s making 60 tackle in an intense game so I know he will miss a few games – I just hope Jon Bennison is ok.”
