Matt Peet takes on some responsibility for Wigan collapse

Wigan Warriors

After a defeat like the one Wigan Warriors suffered against Leeds Rhinos last night, there is a tendency to diagnose who or what is to blame.

However, Wigan coach Matt Peet has said that the whole side including himself have to take collective responsibility for the defeat.

Peet said on the Wigan website after the 40-18 defeat:

“It’s always collectiveness – players and coaches working together. That’s why we take the highs and the lows as a unit. We thought we had a good plan tonight but ultimately we didn’t stick to it or execute it which we all have to take responsibility for.

“Individuals make errors and it is about how the team responds to them. I was quite disappointed with how we responded tonight.”

Peet also expressed the pain he felt for the supporters as they saw Leeds run in six second half tries despite being down to 12 men.

He said: “Our fans have been great on the whole and myself and the players understand their frustrations. We are disappointed, but we are very much in it with the fans who we have a great connection with.”
